I did it. After being an OG member since the college-only-days of 2004, I quit Facebook two days ago and it feels amazing. This is the video I sent to my friends as my farewell address. It’s ten minutes, which is eternity for internet-attention, I know. But in case even one of you wants to watch it out of curiosity, food for thought, or have had similar feels before, I now share it with the tumblr-verse.
I’ve got about two weeks before my next hospital stay. Passing time during the interim going out of my comfort zone and drawing requests from friends. Looking to do one of these a day or so. It’s been really nice just losing the day in colored pencils and drawing purely for fun. It’s really be almost ten years since I’ve just drawn, to draw, with no storytelling or assignment, or pitch behind it all. I guess this still doesn’t count because I’m taking requests, but what can I say? I need a mission or I flounder.
Anyways, figured I’d share it on here because it’s so different from the webcomic fare you all are accustomed to from me. I’m happy with how it turned out and excited to do more. Hope you don’t mind this detour of content for a bit.
For the past few months I’ve been dealing with various tests, doctor visits and scheduling based around two tumors that we discovered back around March. It’s kind of invaded a lot of my headspace, and coupled with my recent freelance job, I haven’t been in the spirit to knock out any Adison comics.
The one in my neck/head is coming out in three days, and once that heals they’ll be tackling the one in my chest. It’ll be a few months of recovery, healing, potential rehab, follow up appointments, etc. So just sit tight, I’ll return to this eventually. (And just to clarify, I have the tumor, not Adison. She’s fine and dandy and awesome and getting ready to start kindergarten.)
I may end up doing some on paper, old school, while I’m resting. If so, I’ll just upload it from my phone that way.
Sorry for the delay to anyone that enjoys reading them. Hang tight, I’ll do my best to make it up to y’all somehow.
After eight years, the nub in my Wacom pen has finally worn past a point of usefulness and I’ve misplaced the replacements. Drawing the comics with a mouse for the week until I secure a replacement. Brace yourselves for a dip in draftsmanship.
'Magination Monday! Since Friendly Friday has been such a hoot, here’s a new concept to explore; ‘Magination Monday. The concept is to take an Adison quote and interpret an alternate scene around it.
This idea was birthed accidentally when a Bearded Guy (http://aubgcomic.tumblr.com) created this comic last week for the quote “Jeeeeez, I guess you know nothing about patience” and came up with this outlandish situation. It didn’t fit the Friendly Friday criteria, but I couldn’t bring myself to scrapping it, and thus 'Magination Monday was born.
Enjoy. Feel free to check out the bearded fellow’s tumblr for comics about bearded characters, and as usual, if YOU are interested in doing a Friendly Friday or a ‘Magination Monday strip, shoot me a message and I’ll get you queued up!
Adison Hadleigh, the subject of this lovely webcomic, has turned five years old! While this may initially seem slightly less charming than what a four-year-old may say; remember that this year will bring us Kindergarten and losing teeth. Hilarity shall ensue.
Adison got Frozen on DVD as an early birthday present. We are watching it everyday. Brace yourselves, a stream of Frozen-inspired quotes are headed your way.
Friendly Friday! Each Friday I will be posting an Adison comic drawn by another artist, unless we don’t have an artist each week, in which case I’ll just do another one per usual. If you’re interested, shoot me a message with your EMail address and I’ll start building the queue on a first-come-first-served basis, and when it’s your week, you’ll get an Email with a fresh quote from Adison.
This week we’ve got a word of warning from the slightly-trained fighting machine that is Adison. I’m not sure of our contributor’s name but his blog pays homage to a fellow named Lazlo Falconi. He does post some original artwork, so give it a peek and a follow at http://lazlofalconi.tumblr.com
